On the left sleeve is a Chief Boatswain's Mate's rating, white and red on blue embroidered on a thick blue wool patch.
The coat is lined in red wool and black cotton. There is a manufacturer's tag on the chest, and a retailer's tag in the neck. The former is a large white rectangle, with red and blue embroidery, including a large central red eagle: "GERMANIA | SINCE 1865 | MADE IN | U.S.A. | GENUINE - ALL WOOL | CHINCHILLA | REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.". The latter, is a white-on-black woven tag, with some damage to the wording. It appears to say "A[??????] & Co | NEWARK N.J.". It's possibly a Bamberger's tag, like that in the associated hat.
Newspaper advertisements show that Germania Chinchilla coats were especially popular from 1927 until 1934, and cost around $200 in 2023 dollars.
