| Description | A peaked cap of fine blue wool, with woolen peak, for a very young child (2-3 years old?). Woven chin strap has gold wings with "AVIATOR" above, flanked on each side by a red circle with a white star, with a red circle in the center (similar to early-WWII US aircraft insignia). The strap is held by hexagonal buttons made of cheap stamped metal, with a woven pattern. They appear similar to cheap cufflinks of the 1930s. The top is lined in a grey/white silk-like fabric, in a wide herringbone weave, with a figure on a horse in a double rectangle, above "Prince of Wales" in small caps. The headband is stiffened with buckram. The cap is in mostly very good condition, but has a liquid stain to the back left, lightening the top and darkening the lining. The woven tape is the same pattern as seen on Child's aviator cap, except that one is all gold. |
