| Description | Ribbons are sewn directly to the jacket: Bronze Star Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Belgian Croix de Guerre with device holes, and French Croix de Guerre (faded), with gilt star. The gilt start signifies that he was mentioned in despatches at the corps level. The Belgian Croix de Guerre was awarded in Decree of May 2, 1946, No 2265, to "Thomas NICHOL Jr., No 0306889". See "Belgium remembers and honors the U.S. Armies of Liberation" p. 195. Left sleeve SSI is 1st Army. Right sleeve (combat) patch, is British-made (?) SHAEF, embroidered on very dark blue (black?) wool. The jacket is fully lined in red rayon. A printed label is sewn in the collar, "THOMAS NICHOL, JR. | A.S.N. 0306889". Tailor's label in the right inside-breast pocket: "RAMAN | 10. NEW BOND STREET | LONDON. W. 4C | [...]", dated, possibly, "10/5/45". I believe this Thomas Nichol, Jr., 1909-1980, was a Major/Lieutenant Colonel, in counter-intelligence, on Eisenhower's staff. This does NOT match the writing on the back of the photograph in this grouping, however. He was a Major on 8 December 1944.
