| Description | Nickel-plated 4-inch semi-spherical base, with 2-inch jaws on a 3-inch projection. The jaws are grey steel. There is a double-knurled brass band around the projection, just below the jaws, with cutouts for the adjustment screw. With the top removed, marking on the top of the base is visible: "AD. MUEHLMATT MAKER CIN.U.S.A. | THE SPECIAL", where "SPECIAL" has a sword through it from left to right. The vise sits on a sewn-leather donut base. A cast key is included, marked "G" on both sides, along with a selection of workholding pegs, some bare brass, and many (modern) chrome-plated. Adolph Muehlmatt emigrated from Switzerland in 1891, and began producing tools in Cincinnati the following year. His company was acquired by the Hamilton Tool Co. after his death in 1937.
