| Description | Metal battery box for German WWII equipment like the Lafette 34 machinegun tripod, or the DF 10x80 binoculars. In the first case, the battery was used to power a light for nighttime use of the MG Z or MGZ 40 optical sight. The light plugged into the battery box, and attached to the top of the sight using a dovetail. Heavy traces of post-war paint which have been stripped down to the wartime ordnance yellow paint. Black ink stamps inside, "d.d.v." in Fraktur, and another partial stamp which appears to be a Waffenamt with "C28". White "+" on outside, indicating temperature ratings. Bakelite casing marked "K1389" in a circle, and "jmh" and "S" in umbrella mark. Webbing tab on spring-loaded latch. Several pages of OS 9-61 Vol. 3 "Ordnance School Text: Foreign Materiel, Volume 3" are dedicated to this box and the related lighting device. Purchased on eBay from the UK, Jun-06-04. |
