Name Child's Hussar tunic (British?)

Catalog ID HCM5918
Year circa 1900-1930
Description Child's Hussar tunic, made of fine blue wool. Lined in black and white (sleeves) rayon or silk. Size "56" stamped in right sleeve, along with a rectangular mark which has been blotted out with black. A similar rectangle is at the rear, below the neck, and has been blackened and abraded. Lining is loose at the bottom, allowing inspection of construction.

Tunic is decorated with heavy silver (or light gold) and gold braid. Round pinwheel buttons, and five oblong buttons at the front (one replaced with a spiral-shaped button of similar dimensions). Two additional hook-and-eye enclosures below the buttons to keep the lower part closed. A small snap holds the rear vent closed. Another small snap is found in the collar (to hold a false shirt collar?).

Sold as "Imperial Austrian", but appears more similar to British Hussar uniforms.

All button types (round, oblong, and replaced) are stamped "MADE IN ENGLAND", although all buttons may not be stamped.
