| Description | A well-made wool U.S. Marine Corps dress blue uniform, made for a young child of 4-5 years. Pocketless jacket, with red wool piping, and brass M1937 EGA collar insignia. Patches sewn in the collar contain the insignia nuts, and prevent the insignia posts from bothering the child's neck. Corporal's insignia and service stripes are sewn of gold tape, in the pre-war fashion. Jacket has partial lining of cotton and silk, with a pocket inside the right breast. All buttons are flat, of three-piece construction, and appear to be of the same manufacturer. The large buttons are marked, "J.C.L. SHABECK | * PROV.R.I. * ". An explosion occurred at Shabeck's factory on 3/19/1922. It's not clear when the business ended. Trousers are of thick wool, with red stripes. They are very well made, belt loops, two slash pockets, a watch pocket, and button fly. Synthetic brown buttons are marked "FOR GENTLEMEN * * * ". Moth damage to both. See USMC blue dress service coat, Sergeant for an adult jacket of the same era. |
