| Description | WWII German military 10x80 spotter's binoculars, with mount. Appears to be a pre- or very early war set, originally in grey paint, now overpainted in ordnance tan. Both the binoculars, and the mount, are marked "dkl", the 3-letter code for Josef Schneider & Co., of Kreuznach. The binoculars themselves also have the logo of the company, indicating they're early. The serial number, 5204 also indicates it's early. The reported wartime range is 5437 to 82036. Several sources also indicate the only contractor to use their name (and not just the code) was the designer and chief contractor, Emil Busch. This set breaks that rule. The headrest is included, but only the base of the rubber pad remains. The mount consists of the Messkreis (protractor), and Traeger (support). This unit would sit on a Gestell 38 tripod. Weight about 25lbs. For use with Gestell 38 tripod for DF 10x80 binoculars. See: "Eyes of the Wehrmacht", "The Eye of the Flak", Volume I. |
