Name Child's 1960s US Army uniform

Catalog ID HCM5294
Year circa 1955-1976
Description Child's uniform consisting of shirt, trousers, belt, cap, and boots.

The cap is a Lousville "Spring-Up" cap, also known as a "Ridgeway cap." It has the original Louisville tag, and is size Small, 5 3/4 - 5 7/8. It appears too small for even a three-year-old. It has little wear, but is slightly misshapen from storage. The label says: "(R)SpringUp by Louisville SMALL | 5 3/4 - 5 7/8 | PAT. NO. 2,716,753 | BUILT IN SMARTNESS - LASTS TO THE VERY END | WASH WITH BRUSH, SOAP AND WATER-IF DRY CLEANED, REMOVE | STEEL RING BEFORE CLEANING - REPLACE AFTER CLEANING. | LOUISVILLE CAP CORP.". The patent was filed in 1952 and issued in 1955.

The two-pocket shirt has a three-button front, gold-on-black woven U.S. Army tape, and blank white woven nametape. The neck is stamped "CONT. 8951 | SANFORIZED | VAT DYED | SIZE 3", and a frayed white label: "Top Rank | TRADE MARK REGISTERED | BY | LOUISVILLE CAP CO".

The trousers are thick cotton, and don't appear to be marked. There are four pockets (one flapped), and a zipper fly with one green plastic button.

The black webbing belt and brass buckle appear to be GI.

The boots are black leather, and are very well constructed, sewn and reinforced with copper rivets. Nine pairs of eyelets, and black laces. Rubber B.F. Goodrich "TUFFY" soles. The heal lining is stamped "CHAMP | PARATROOPER BOOT". No size stamp is apparent on the leather, but the heels are marked with "12" in a circle.

The Louisville Cap Co. was incorporated, in Kentucky, between 1954 and 1976, although this set is likely pre-1965, based on the white nametape. This is no earlier than 1955, though, due to the patent number.
