Description | A mid-19th Century brass micrometer, on three turned feet. Three witness holes in the plate may indicate that the dial has been changed. The enamel dial is divided into degrees, and is chipped at 325o. A lever at the bottom allows the user to open the steel jaws at the top to allow the subject to be inserted. This lever is attached to the bottom of a curved steel arm, which swivels at the moving jaw at top, and is attached via a fusee-type chain to the needle's arbor.
