Name "The New-England Primer", unknown, incomplete

Catalog ID HCM4492
Year circa 1790-1810
Description Unknown partial copy of "The New-England Primer", the first reading primer of the American Colonies.

Scaleboard (wooden) boards, covered in paper (faux-marbled?). Spine appears to be leather. Stabbed binding, with two 3/8" leather tapes. The top one is broken. Paper covering is missing, especially on the rear board. Both boards cracked. Inside of boards have printed pages pasted down, possibly originally. Front has "All good Boys and Girls pray every night and morning..." under a woodcut. Page is un-numbered. Rear is page "(95)", with a woodcut and quotes from the Book of Matthew, including "Our Savior's Golden Rule. Matt. vii. 12."

12mo. The paper is laid, except for possibly Section B. Pages are numbered 23-95. Leaf with 23-24 is detached (and is obviously laid paper, from section A). Signatures (page) are B (25), B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 (35), C (49), C2, C3, C4, C5, C6 (59), D (73), D2, D3, D4, D5, D6 (83). I believe this is described as something like "[a],[A¹],B-D⁶,[E¹]", though [a] and [E] are both single-leaf.
