| Description |
Simple iron door latch, made of riveted sheet iron (one large piece covering the edge of the door, and the back of the plate, and another piece covering the remaining three sides. Top and bottom are rivetted to the front using irregular rectangular pegs. Inside handle and latch are a single piece. Outside handle fits through a squared-off hole at the bend of the inside handle/latch, and is attached with a chamfered square nut on the inside of the door.
Slide bolt at bottom can be used to secure the door from the inside. There is no key, so there is no way to secure it from the outside.
The bolt and the latch each have a thin leaf-spring.
Some pitting, especially inside. A few spots show what appears to be the original blackened (blued?) finish. Remnants of white paint on the door edge.
Supports doors from around 3/4" to 1 1/8" thick. |
