| Description | Mahogany Pembroke-style table, very wide. Small loop-pulls on drawer and false-drawer. False-drawer front was an actual drawer front, with trimmed dovetails and cut for a lock. Secondary wood is possibly birds-eye maple, with rose-headed nails holding the drawer rails. Insect damage to maple, drawer side, and leaf support. Block (guttae) feet with a flute on each side, leaving four sections per foot. Crude fretwork under the drawer. Brass pulls moved, but possibly original. Pulls on false-drawer appear to be modern. Missing castors. The top and leaves show marks of a toothing plane on the undersides. See Figure 94 in "Furniture of Williamsburg and Eastern Virginia 1710-1790". Also see "tassel-foot" Virginia furniture, especially from Petersburg. Questions: Secondary wood (inside, supports, drawers) Hole placement on false drawer also high? Hardware: Hinges? Screws? 26.5x23x27.5 DxWxH, with 11" leaves (43"W open). |
