Name Late 19th Century American graver
Catalog ID HCM4819
Year circa 1889
Description Fancy dark wood handle, with flat on bottom, stamped "PAT.MAR.12 1889". The handle is hollowed from the front, and has seven lines turned into the outside. There is a decorative (???) about an inch from the back of the handle. The handle has a groove down the entire length on the bottom, which fits the angles of the graver. A German silver split-sleeve, with simple scrolls engraved on the corners, holds the graver into the handle. The sleeve is stamped "GUARANTEED | EZRA BOWMAN & CO. | LANCASTER PA. | PAT MAR.12.1889".

The graver itself is square, with the bottom corner ground flat. The front is ground to a knife blade shape. The rear is forged into a rounded shape, to fit the handle. It is stamped "Stehman Jenks & Stehman" on one side, and "Lanc'r.Pa." on the other.

The sleeve makes the graver length adjustable.
