The Far East Air Forces was activated on August 3, 1944. It's mission was to provide command control over US Army Air Forces in the Southwest Pacific Area. The FEAF coordinated the activities of the 5th and 13th Air Forces. The duties of FEAF were to launch strategic and tactical bombing attacks, as well as destroy the Japanese Air Force. The 7th Air Force was assigned to FEAF after Okinawa, and units of FEAF were among the first to enter Tokyo after the war ended. After the war, the Far East Air Forces became the Pacific Air Forces.
